Abraham Saw Jesus.
Even though Abraham lived thousands of years before Jesus of Nazareth would travel through the land of judea, Samaria & Galilee preaching the Good news of God’s kingdom.
After God first spoke to Abraham in genesis chapter 12 we read these words.
So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; & Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated & the people they had acquired in Harran, & they set out for the land of Canaan (modern day Israel/Palestine), & they arrived there. Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The Lord APPEARED to Abram & said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, WHO had APPEARED to him.”
Genesis 12:4-7
NOTE: Abraham did not have to “travel” to some heavenly realm to see God? It even points out twice that God APPEARED to Him where he was, near Shechem a place I have seen with my own eyes.
Abraham must have been filled with Joy - remember prior to that moment he had only ever heard the voice of God instructing him to leave His land and Come into God’s promise. God’s APPEARANCE confirmed Abraham wasn’t hearing things, THIS God was real & APPEARED before His VERY eyes. Abraham FILLED with Joy marked this occasion by building an altar to the LORD who he had just SEEN.
Now read this from John’s gospel in chapter 8 where the Pharisees are accusing Jesus of lying & exaggerating His sonship and divinity as God.
This was Jesus’ response to those who also believed in Abraham as the father of their nation.
If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad. Very truly I tell you, before Abraham was born, I am!
Jesus claims Abraham saw Him and rejoiced but goes one step further - Jesus claims He always existed
